The Gamba
Declaration
Dear colleague,
If you are a scientists who believes (based on either your own work or the scientific literature) that gamba grass should be declared in Queensland and the Northern Territory, please read the letter and send an email to gamba.declaration@gmail.com saying you would like to be a signatory. Please specify your name and title (and affiliation if you wish).
The open letter summaries the extremely high environmental risk of gamba grass invasion- including high invasiveness, high intensity fires, loss of trees, nutrient depletion, threats to listed species, as so on- and provides referenced supporting information.
Western Australia has recently banned gamba grass, but Queensland and Northern Territory have not, despite weed risk assessments rating gamba as a very high risk weed.
Thank you for considering adding your name to the list.
On behalf of the launchers.
Journalists, for a copy of the gamba declaration with signatories please email gamba.declaration@gmail.com to request a copy or phone 0402 701 276.
